Nursing Back to Health

When Victor Frankenstein was done with the creations of his monster and he was out of his apartment because he was so scared, he was then found by his old friend Henry. He was extremely lucky to run into him because Victor was very ill and he needed somebody to bring him to his senses because he would become deathly ill if he didn't get some attention. Later when Victor had his fit and was then out for a while Henry nursed him through the night and then stayed with him to get him back to his full health. Henry is a great friend for doing this because instead of coming to fulfill his studies and just ignore the illness of his friend, he put off all of those school duties to help his friend become well again. In the end of Victor's illness he was still haunted by seeing the monster in his mind. Henry wasnt concerned with that monster, and instead helped Victor reach his family and become closer to them again. Victor is very lucky to have a friend like Henry and to have become well enough to realize that he was putting his family off.

Do you think Henry will stay with Victor and study and help him find the monster? Or do you think he will be scared like Victor was and leave his friend with his own problem now that his health is better?

  1. Keely,

You've picked up on an important theme of the novel: LEAVING THOSE YOU'RE RESPONSIBLE FOR. Victor is like a father who leaves his child behind. I hope Clerval hangs in with Victor, because this man needs all the help he can get! Will it be enough?

  2. Henry is one of my favorite characters in the novel. You can really tell by his actions that he really does care for his best friend Victor. And I personally believe he would nver leave his side especially when Victor is having such a hard time physically and emotionally.
To answer Mr. Davis's question, no I dont think that Henry standing by him will be enough because victors problem are so much deeper than Henry realizes and are problems only Victor can sort out for himself. But I do think Henry was an important factor in Victor being able to sort his problems out because it gives Victor someone to lean on and help him out.

  3. Overall, I think that Henry will stay with Victor until he feels uncomfortable with the situation. However, I think that Henry will leave Victor to deal with his own problems in the end. Great Blog!

  4. I agree with Preston, I think Henry will eventually leave, leaving Victor alone with the monster he created. I like your blog!
